About me

My name is Jessica, and I live in the beautiful town of Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

Prior to setting up my proofreading business, I spent 13 years in the Royal Air Force. Initially working within flight operations before moving into a training and development role. Following my military career, I have worked as a training advisor delivering management qualifications to learners at a number of national organisations.

My academic background lies in linguistics. I have a first-class honours degree in modern language studies (English and Spanish), and I'm currently studying part-time for a master's in applied linguistics.

My study of languages coupled with my military experience has allowed me to combine a keen eye for detail with a love of the English language – proofreading was the natural choice!

Through my roles in learning and development, I have produced high quality training material for both the public and private sectors and have experience proofreading academic assignments, including by students with English as a second language. Since becoming a freelance proofreader and copyeditor, I have worked with publishers, businesses, non-profit organisations and independent writers on a wide variety of projects including published books, website content, blog articles and academic publications.

I have formally trained in proofreading through the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) and as a member adhere to their code of practice..
